The Principality of Andorra is an independent and sovereign state governed by the rule of law since its constitution was adopted in 1993.

It is a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the International Monetary Fund. It is part of the Eurozone and the euro is its official currency under a monetary agreement signed with the European Union (EU).

Andorra's political system is a parliamentary co-principality Andorra is the only country in the world that has a political system based on co-princes with two heads of state: the Archbishop of Urgell and the President of the French Republic.

The General Council of Andorra is the principality’s legislature. It has a single chamber and representatives are elected in two forms: nationally and locally. The head of government and all members of the legislature are elected by universal suffrage for a 4-year term.
